Aliens

L and I went to see Aliens In The Attic today and it was cute. I had asked him if he wanted to see G-Force, and he was like 'mom, that's about guinea pigs' with a look of disgust as if to say 'mom, what are you thinking?'.

I get it, I am uncool. Whatever.

But Aliens In The Attic was cute, probably not an Oscar contender, but it served the purpose of family entertainment for an hour and a half this morning. Some good previews noted were, Where The Wild Things Are, Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, Shorts (which will be a MUST SEE), Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, and of course Disney's A Christmas Carol with Jim Carey.

A day out of the house!

I know it's been awhile, and I'd like to say it's been because we've been busy doing lots of fun things. But that's not the case. Things have actually been quite normal this last week. We've stayed indoors a lot because of heat and then rain. But by Monday I'd had enough and we decided to go out to visit the new Lego store that opened at one of the local malls.

I like the mall we went to because not only does it have some really great shops, but it also has a really great feel. Everywhere you go they have displayed art, on the walls, as sculptures even some really great window displays. Although, I didn't take a photo of the Barney's NY window which was filled with about a hundred Mr. Potato Heads.

Here's L infront of the fountain after having made a wish...

L infront of hanging blue jeans at A/X...

finally, we found the Lego store!

After the mall we had lunch at a European deli/bakery...yum!...

And afterwards we hit Sprinkles for some dessert to take home. :)

L had the Red Velvet cupcake with the Texas on top.

Hai-YA! KARATE!!!

L decided he wants to take Karate, this was not a fast decision, it was one that he's brought up periodically over the last 1 1/2 years. We went and checked out a few classes last week at different schools and he really enjoyed one of them. So much, in fact, that he spent all weekend practicing what he'd learned in a 30 minute class. I told him that to do Karate is not cheap. It's way more than soccer. He offered to pay $100- of his own money that he's been saving in order to start the class. (I can't believe how big my little boy is getting)

So today we went up to the school and got him signed up. He got his uniform, a school patch, a practice pad to punch and kick at, a school logo T-Shirt, a backpack and a private 30 min lesson with the teacher. Then he got to participate in the juniors class. He is so excited and can't wait to go back tomorrow.

Elmo Potty.

When my house is quiet it needs to be either Lil C's nap time or night time when everyone is in bed. If it is quiet at any other point in the day when we are home, something bad is taking place.

Thus was the case yesterday when I entered panic mode wondering where and what Lil C was up to. I instructed L to search the upstairs while I took the downstairs area.

Calling out to him, he finally emerged from the bathroom.

"what mama? what mama?"

Knowing this couldn't be good I asked what he was doing.

"Elmo potty"

Thinking back on his Elmo Goes Potty dvd that we checked out of the library earlier this month, I thought GREAT, he's ready to try and use the potty. So I said...

"Do you want to go use the potty?"

"NO! Elmo potty!"

"Ok, honey. Elmo potty, does C want to go potty?"

"No, mama, Elmo potty"

and with this he lead me to see...

Needless to say, Elmo went into the trash. He was one of the talking ones, so he couldn't survive a washing without getting damaged.

Bye, bye, Elmo.

the Arboretum

Today was such a beautiful day. By 8am I decided it was not going to be a stay inside the house, all day, kind of day. Taking advantage of the beautiful non-life threatening heat, I decided to take the boys to the Arboretum. The weather was perfect when we arrived. Mostly sunny with high clouds and around 80F. We strolled around exploring some gardens we had not ventured into before and were surprised when we happened across some story book play houses we had not seen before.

chasing black birds...

this little squirrel was very playful and I'm convinced was trying to get us to feed him...
