Sailboats at the harbor

We took the boys to watch a sailboat race. We were supposed to stick around for the fireworks at the end, but it was 101F degrees at 8pm and I just couoldn't stand the heat any longer.

I think there is a different mentality of people who live near or on the water. When I worked, driving over the lake was the higlight of my commute. It's so calming and and the air is always just a bit cooler. People tend to be more relaxed in nature, in my opinion, when they have time to gaze out into the waters. I love gazing out over the lake.

A Day At The Beach

We spent one morning at the beach. I like the idea of the beach, but I am not a fan of the sand that seems to follow you everywhere for the next several days. It's in the car, on your shoes, you even feel that grit in your mouth. Yuck! But the time spent at the beach is always fun.

Sun, Sailboats and the Boardwalk

Kemah is a pretty cool place, even though it is totally a tourist area. We went there after NASA for lunch and to walk around. Lil C loves boats right now. Big boats. Speed boats. Fishing boats.

There used to be several houses along this area before Hurricane Ike hit last year. Infact, one was a Bed & Breakfast C and I stayed in when we visited the area before kids. All gone. :(

The restaraunt we went to for lunch was a nice seafood place. They had these large model ships in the waiting area and both Lil C and L wanted to play with them.

C couldn't wait to have some oysters. I know, I know, June does not end with an er but there was no stopping him and he and my step-brother B said they were pretty good.

Outside they had little Catfish food things, so you could feed the fish.

NASA - Johnson Space Center

NASA is a pretty cool place. I mean, looking at stuff that actually went out into the solar system and came back down to Earth is pretty awesome.

What can make it more awesome?

When they mix in a George Lucas exhibit. lol

I never realised George Lucas did Howard the Duck...does everyone remember this movie? I loved it when it came out, now it's just creepy.

Then we took an hour tour of the NASA grounds. When I took this tour in the past you got to see the Mission Control room and the Training center. Now they have it split, you can choose one. Well, guess you could choose both, but they are each an hour long, so we chose the Training center, it was L's decision.

Why did I take a picture of a bike? Because I found out that the bikes all over the NASA campus are there to make it easier for employees and astronauts to get around, from one building to the next. I thought that was a pretty smart idea. :)
